The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-32mm F/3.5-5.6 silver delivers superb image quality and is incredibly compact. It is also retractable, despite its versatile focal length of 12-32mm (equivalent to 24-64mm on a 35mm camera). With a wide angle starting at 24mm, this lens is suitable for a wide range of shots, from dynamic landscapes to everyday snapshots. The new lens system, which consists of eight elements in seven groups, uses three aspherical lenses. As a result, the overall length has been reduced considerably without compromising optical quality. The ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens also minimises chromatic aberration in the corners across the entire zoom range. To make the lens even smaller, every element has been made as thin as possible and placed as close together as possible. In addition, two lens groups act as O.I.S. (optical image stabiliser) by shifting relative to each other. This is the first time this technology has been used in a digital interchangeable lens for the LUMIX G series. Moving the two lens groups requires power, which is supplied by a specially developed drive motor.
Panasonic's Mega O.I.S. (optical image stabiliser) makes sure you can capture extremely sharp shots, even at the telephoto end or in low light. The image stabiliser suppresses the blur caused by camera shake. The 12-32mm F/3.5-5.6 features an inner focusing system and a stepping motor. As a result, the fast, high-precision Contrast AF system is very quiet when shooting both photos and video. The lens is also compatible with sensor drive at up to 240 fps, so you can get the most out of cameras with an ultra-fast AF system, such as the DMC-GM1.
