Leica Q2 Monochrom
The Leica Q2 Monochrom is a full-frame compact camera with a 47.3 MP monochrome sensor, used exclusively to capture vivid, rich black-and-white images.
Compared with a standard CMOS sensor, this specialised monochrome sensor omits the colour filter array and records only luminance values, achieving greater visual depth and clarity. This goes hand in hand with improved sensitivity up to ISO 100,000 and lower noise levels for working in challenging light. The sensor design also leaves out an optical low-pass filter and includes an updated microlens array, which helps produce sharper, higher-resolution images.
Besides its Monochrom distinction, this version of the Q2 follows the familiar path of fast, robust performance and intuitive handling. The sensor is paired with a Maestro II image processor for fast capture processing at up to 10 fps, support for both DCI and UHD 4K video recording and reliable autofocus performance. This camera also features the same beloved Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. wide-angle prime lens, which is matched to the sensor design for exceptional resolution and clarity.
The Q2 Monochrom also retains the cherished slim and compact design that makes it ideal for street photography and travel, and this Monochrom version even has a more discreet matte black finish without the Leica red dot. The magnesium alloy body is weather-resistant for working in tough environments and uses the same battery as the flagship SL-series cameras for longer battery life. A high-resolution 3.68 MP OLED electronic viewfinder provides smooth, clear monitoring at eye level, and a 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD touchscreen on the back offers easy viewing and control of settings. Built-in Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi enable wireless sharing and remote camera control from a paired mobile device via the Leica FOTOS app.
