The Canon TS-E 24mm F3.5L II is no ordinary wide-angle lens. It is a tilt shift lens — a special type of lens where the optical elements move independently of the sensor. This means light, and therefore the image, strikes the sensor from a variable angle. Because the tilt and shift directions can be rotated independently of each other, both perspective and depth of field can be manipulated, giving you a wealth of options for creative corrections.
Tilt
First, the tilt mechanism. This lets you control the depth of field in a shot. When photographing a subject from an angle, there can be insufficient depth of field — particularly at wide apertures. With the tilt mechanism, you can control this depth of field by tilting the lens up to 8.5°, until the desired sharpness is achieved.
Shift
The shift mechanism corrects converging lines. Think of photographing a tall building: if you point a standard lens up at the Empire State Building, the tower appears distorted, leaning backwards on your screen. With the shift mechanism, you can correct this perspective by shifting the lens up to 12 mm, until the distortion disappears. It's easy to see why architects love this lens.
Outstanding image quality
This premium lens is, of course, part of Canon's professional L-series, meeting the highest industry standards. The Canon TS-E 24mm F3.5L II is equipped with multiple UD and aspherical glass elements, ensuring that chromatic aberrations have no impact on the contrast or colour of your images. Canon's patented SWC coating and Super Spectra coating prevent image distortion and keep reflections to an absolute minimum. The tilt shift lens offers excellent resistance to dust and moisture, making it ideal for demanding conditions. Lead-free, environmentally friendly glass has been used throughout.
