Robust lightweight construction
The Canon EF 200-400mm F4L IS USM with built-in 1.4x Extender is a professional zoom lens that has a great deal to offer nature and sports photographers in particular. At present, the Canon EF 100-400mm is the most popular lens among nature photographers — though many have a love/hate relationship with it, as it is a push-pull zoom. Many photographers prefer a rotating zoom mechanism. The maximum aperture of the 100-400mm is F4.5-5.6, which becomes F6.3-8 when used with a 1.4x teleconverter.
This Canon EF 200-400mm lens is a rotating zoom and offers a wider maximum aperture: F4 throughout the entire range — a gain of half to a full stop. Another innovative development is the built-in 1.4x teleconverter, which lets you instantly convert the lens into a 280-560mm F5.6.
The use of a magnesium alloy provides extra durability and strength without adding weight. The lens is dust- and moisture-resistant; the lens elements feature a fluorine coating, making them easy to clean.
Maximum sharpness in all conditions
Image Stabiliser (IS) technology enables the use of shutter speeds up to four stops longer than normal without motion blur. Three IS modes for effective performance when panning and ultra-fast stabilisation at the moment of exposure.
Fast, intelligent autofocus
Enjoy fast, near-silent autofocus thanks to the ring-type ultrasonic AF motor. Stay in full control with continuously available manual focus, along with an adjustable focus stop and focus preset options on the lens. Power Focus is also available for EOS movies.
